On or before September 1, I will Collect and publish up to 30 articles on the above in a book; the working title is “Secrets I Wish Dad (or Mom) Had Told Me”. Writers who are interested in participating should forward their articles to me as soon as possible to be included. By the way, the sample cover on the right is just a mock-up as is the title. I will use professionals to design the cover and help with publicity for the book. The following guidelines will apply:
Topic
Each article can be either “Secrets I Wish Mom Had told Me” or “Secrets I wish Dad had Told Me”. Your article can be serious, funny, tragic, or wishful – your choice, but it must be entertaining or informational for a reader. The choice of which articles will appear is solely mine.
Length
Between 800 and 2000 words. If your tale is especially well-written and topical, I will consider overages.
Format
I would prefer text or Microsoft Word. I will be converting to HTML for publishing.
Pictures or Illustrations
Please attach as file if they are critical to your article. All pictures should be .jpg and 300 dps. It is difficult to include pictures in eBooks due to different formats. Paperback will have pictures, but B&W only.
Copyrights
Writers should copyright their material and provide me the right to allow its use in the eBook and paperback formats on a non-exclusive basis. You will be required to sign a permission form for that purpose before inclusion in the book. I will show your copyright on each article for further protection of your rights.
Disclaimers
There will be a general disclaimer in the book making contributors responsible for their own content and comments. If you will need a disclaimer for your material specifically, I will be happy to include upon notice prior to publication. My advice is to use imaginary people where events might be embarrassing, scandalous, or in any way hurtful. Neither you nor I want to have public material which might come back to bite us.
Costs or Fees
Writers are not and will not be responsible for the payment of any costs or fees for the preparation or publication of the book. I will provide five (5) free paperbacks to each writer and one (1) free downloads of the Kindle version.
Royalties or Other Payments
Writers will not be paid, nor receive or be entitled to receive any compensation for the inclusion of their article in the published book. Writers will not own any rights to the published book.
Pricing of eBooks and Paperbacks
The retail price of the book will be set solely at the discretion of Michael R. Lewis and Red River Press. It is anticipated that the retail price will range between $1.99 and $3.99 for the eBook and may, at times, be given away free as promotional item to encourage additional sales. Prices of the paperback version are unknown until such time that the number of pages have been determined The editor, Michael R Lewis, intends to enroll the book in KDP Select initially which may limit sales through other retail outlets.
Contributor Biographies
In addition to their articles, writers should submit personal biographies up to 400 words with links directly to their internet blogs, webpages, or social networks (one link per contributor). For paperback copies, writers are encouraged, but not required to provide a single headshot to be included in their biography.
